A browser extension that reads web pages aloud: the sentence being read lights up, it reads the Kindle web reader too, and voices can run locally.

Project intro

Narro is a Chrome browser extension that does one simple thing: it reads the web page you are looking at aloud in a natural AI voice, highlighting each sentence as it is spoken, so you can keep following along even when your eyes cannot keep up with your ears.

It reads ordinary web pages, and it reads the Kindle web reader too — the author built it in the first place because he could not find a Kindle read-aloud tool that sounded good without being bloated. You can use cloud voices with your own key, or pick a model that runs entirely inside the browser, with no sign-up.

The extension is free and open source under the MIT license, and you can install it on Chrome straight from its site. If you like listening to web pages or web novels, or your eyes get tired and you want to switch to your ears, there is almost nothing in the way.

One thing to be clear about: local models need no internet and no account, but their voice quality may fall short of big cloud models. It is a Chrome extension for now, and the site does not say which other browsers are supported — do not assume it works everywhere.
