StrudelBites
A playful block editor where kids snap together music and real code — a vibe-coded Strudel playground for young learners.
Project intro
Make music. Learn code. StrudelBites is a playful, Scratch-style block editor that teaches children and families the basics of music and code at the same time, built on Strudel, the live-coding music language. Snap blocks together and they become real Strudel code that plays instantly — while a parallel staff view shows the same song as rainbow notation with flats, staccato dots, slurs and chords. Two lesson paths guide young learners: "Beats & code" (making sounds, rhythm, layers, chords) and "Read music" (meeting the staff, scales, chords on the staff). Clef, a friendly treble clef, speaks every instruction out loud, blocks are picture-first, and touch targets are big enough for iPads — the whole app is designed so a six-year-old who can't read yet can follow along. A compose mode drops the lessons entirely for free creation; play-along highlighting lights up blocks, beat squares and staff notes as they sound; an 88-key piano strip and a top-view drum kit flash in time. Player profiles with stars are saved in the browser — no accounts, no servers. Open source (AGPL-3.0), iterating fast (v0.3 in its first day). The author describes it, in the repository's own words, as a "vibe coded attempt to visualise the Strudel REPL music making language".
