Project intro

RoomiePlate is an allergy-aware weeknight meal planner for the person you share a kitchen with. You set a roommate profile — allergies, dislikes, cuisines, pantry and a weeknight time budget — generate a week of dinners, swap or regenerate a single day, and export one combined grocery list with the allergen note at the top.

Every meal card carries a safety line written by the app itself, for example 'SAFE for Alex: no peanut/shellfish', never just whatever the model claimed. The demo profile is Alex: peanut and shellfish allergies, vegetarian-friendly dinners when possible, and a hard 30-minute weeknight cap.

The safety design is the point: a post-generation allergen scanner checks every title, ingredient and step, and any meal mentioning a profile allergen is thrown out and replaced, so the model never gets the last word on safety.

The real planning path is a local open-weight model through Ollama (Gemma 2, gemma2:2b by default, swappable with one environment variable), so a dietary profile stays on your own machine; the hosted demo falls back to clearly labelled offline fixtures when no local Ollama is present. Vibe-coded evidence, in the author's own words on DEV (2 October 2026): 'Solo submission.

Built with Cursor cloud agents for scaffolding; the safety rules and product decisions are intentional.'

Honest limits, as the author states them: RoomiePlate is a planning aid, not medical advice — labels still matter and a shared kitchen can still cross-contact a 'safe' recipe; the demo roommate Alex is fiction for the demo, though the hard-avoid rule is real; and the profile, pantry and plan are stored in the browser only (localStorage), with no account and no database.

GitHub stars: 0 at the 28 October 2026 check (4 commits, created 2 October 2026); the live demo was opened and confirmed working on 28 October 2026, showing the Alex profile and the 'not medical advice' banner.
