A pixel-art jukebox playing AI-composed adventure-game music — vibe-coded with Claude Opus 5.5
Scrimshaw Jukebox started as an experiment: "I wanted to see if Claude Opus 5.5 could compose music, so I tried this," wrote Simon Willison on his blog. He had the model design a plain-text score format, then build a playable artifact around it — the result is six original adventure-game tracks (Moonlit Harbor, The Rusty Anchor, The Ghost Galleon, The Jungle Path, Duel on the Docks, Lantern Waltz) played by a synthesizer running entirely in your browser.
Each track gets its own pixel-art scene that changes with the music, and you can open the score and edit it live — the whole thing is one of Willison's prompt-driven experiments ("Miscellaneous HTML+JavaScript tools built mostly with the help of LLMs"), with the colophon marking "scrimshaw-jukebox code / AI generated".
