Lilac
Control your Tuya / Smart Life gadgets from the menu bar — over your own network
Project intro
Lilac is a desktop tray app that controls your Tuya / Smart Life smart-home gadgets straight from the menu bar — mostly over your own LAN. It finds devices by listening to their UDP broadcasts, logs in to Smart Life with a QR code (the same flow as Home Assistant's official Tuya integration) to fetch device names and local keys, then controls them locally over TCP — it keeps working even with the internet down. Each gadget type gets its own page: air conditioners with big temperature and mode/fan cards, breakers with energy readouts, lights with brightness and white-tone sliders. It also supports infrared air conditioners, LG ThinQ units, favorites, tray quick actions, nine themes, and a CLI for debugging. Builds for Windows, macOS and Linux are on the releases page. The author states verbatim in the README: "This project is vibe-coded. It was built in a long conversation between a human (Tulio Calil) and an AI (Claude, by Anthropic): the human set the direction, tested on real hardware and made the calls; the AI wrote most of the code, the tests and these docs." MIT licensed, 5 releases since 2026-10-13.
