Project intro

ƜackDown is a native Windows 64-bit Markdown viewer that deliberately ships no browser engine. It parses Markdown straight into its own layout and rasterizes everything with Direct2D and DirectWrite — zero HTML, zero CSS, pure GPU immediate-mode drawing. The payoff: instant cold start, and print/PDF export that reuses the exact same Direct2D command lists as the screen, so what you see is literally what lands on paper. It comes with 8 built-in themes (including a cyberpunk terminal look), and live-reloads while an agent streams output into the file — a viewer built with AI-agent workflows in mind. The author (bezko / GitHub bezkom) declares in the README verbatim: "ƜackDown is AI-generated: its code, documentation, installer and icon were written by an AI coding assistant (Claude Code) under human direction and review." The accompanying Show HN post puts it more bluntly: "Vibe coded in Rust, what more can you ask for?" This is the rare vibe-coded systems project that goes below the web stack: Win32 + Direct2D + DirectWrite, all hand-steered, AI-written. For anyone who reads agent-generated Markdown all day, a viewer that opens before the blink finishes is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade. GPL-3.0, pushed 2026-10-16.
