Free My TV
An ad-free home screen for Google TV — open source, built with Claude Code, with one button to undo.
Project intro
The stock Google TV home screen is a billboard: sponsored rows, banners, autoplaying promos. Free My TV swaps it for a launcher that respects the biggest screen in the house — your apps front and center on a glass shelf, trending picks from the apps you actually use, the weather at a glance, and a theme that follows your city's real sunset. One button brings back the factory home screen, so trying it is risk-free. The numbers are why it exploded: 348 stars in a single day, 60 fps on the TV's own chip, 96 MB of memory instead of 242 MB, no root, nothing uninstalled. Install takes about ten minutes with a computer on the same Wi-Fi — and the README's honest party trick is that the install guide itself is written for Claude Code: open the folder, say "set it up for my Sony," and the agent reads your TV, finds its home screen and promo apps, and walks you through a test. A CLAUDE.md in the repo teaches any AI how to adapt it to new TV brands. Open source, MIT licensed, and — as the site footer puts it — "Built with Claude Code."
