CADCraft

Project intro

CADCraft is an open-source, clean-room AutoCAD-style drafting application built in pure Rust: the command line, object snaps, layers, dimensions, hatches, blocks and DXF drawings you already know, with no Electron and no web view. Type `L`, click two points, type `@5<45`, press Enter — prompts with clickable keywords, AutoComplete, polar tracking, ortho and direct distance entry behave the way decades of drafting habit expect. Drawing covers LINE, PLINE, CIRCLE, ARC, RECTANG, POLYGON, ELLIPSE, SPLINE, TEXT and MTEXT; modification covers MOVE, COPY, ROTATE, SCALE, MIRROR, STRETCH, OFFSET, TRIM, EXTEND, FILLET, CHAMFER and ARRAY; layers, linetypes, annotation with full DIMSTYLE variables, associative dimensions, MLEADER and TABLE are all in. DXF is read and written natively (ASCII and binary, R12 through 2018) and DWG files open and save through the open-source acadrust library; export runs to SVG and PNG, and paper-space layouts plot to PDF. Every menu item, tool and prompt is a command, so agents can type at the command line exactly like a person, call any command with JSON, inspect the drawing and render it — over MCP, a JSON control channel, or the CLI. It runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD, plus a WebAssembly build for the browser. Evidence note, stated honestly: CADCraft's agent-driven origin is established by third-party reporting and the repository's own agent protocol, not by a first-person "vibe-coded" quote from the author. 3D Printing Industry (2026-10-19) reports the project and its sibling SolidCraft "were both built around AI coding agents", each repository carries a CLAUDE.md framed as instructions for agents under an autonomous operation protocol, and CADCraft's roadmap measures remaining work in model time — roughly 50 Opus 5.5 wall-clock hours to an alpha release. The DTO does not claim more than that. Honest status, from the project itself: early development, with weighted AutoCAD parity around 29% overall and 55% for 2D drafting, 3D modelling at 0%, entities it does not yet model not kept on save, and whether its files open correctly in AutoCAD itself not yet confirmed.
