Peek-a-Hatch
Eggs that only move when nobody is watching: cover your eyes, peek through your fingers, and catch them mid-wiggle.
Project intro
Peek-a-Hatch is a one-button trick game built in 72 hours for All Tools Allowed #3 (theme TRICK). The eggs only move when nobody is watching: hold anywhere (or space) to cover your eyes, and through the gaps between your fingers you can still see the egg. Let go while it wiggles and you catch it; let go while its eyes peek out of the shell and it sees you, and sulks. Each egg only grows while you look away, so every catch costs it time, and you must hatch each of the five eggs before its sunset — the later ones are sneakier, baiting you with a short wiggle that runs straight into a peek. The twist that makes every run personal: each creature grows from how you held your eyes shut, so the length of every look-away is its seed and nobody else hatches yours, and your creatures can have children when bred on overflow.games. The build was rules-first, as a small pure module with unit tests for the egg's rest, wiggle, growth, glint and check states, before the three.js scene, the paws as plain CSS with gaps to peek through, and browser tests at phone and desktop size. No image, sound or text generator was used: the eggs, creatures and meadow are drawn by code at runtime with three.js. The author states Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) was used for the code and the design. Free in the browser, short and wholesome, one button.
