VIBES
A no-rush vaporwave music toy: arrange objects and turn knobs across eight late-night scenes, and the music, sky and lights change along with you.
Project intro
VIBES is a vaporwave music toy you play in the browser: it started with three scenes and has now grown to eight — a closed mall, a future-funk room, a chill room, a synthwave room, a fake-utopia atrium, a vapor-noise basement, a fruity aero field, and finally a grand closing sale. Each scene has a few pads to place things on, and the bigger or smaller the thing you place, the more the music, the sky and the lights shift with it.
There is no winning or losing here: turn all three dials into the green zone and the room clicks into place. Each scene also has an after-hours sandbox you can wander freely, and finishing one scene unlocks the next in order, with your progress saved. Once you have played through all eight scenes, a window called BONUS.EXE pops up, hiding a quiet poolroom and a candlelit hall.
The music here is not recorded songs: every genre has its own live sound engine that plays in the browser in real time, so the moment you turn a knob the music changes with it, and the same scene never sounds exactly the same twice.
One thing to be clear about: this one is all about unwinding — no countdown, nothing chasing you, no game over. It is best played with sound on, and scenes unlock in order, so you cannot jump straight to the last one.
