Project intro

Organize Tabs 2.0 is a Chrome extension that solves the tab-hoarder's real problem: not too many tabs, but too many tabs you can't tell apart. Its rule engine recognises duplicates even when the URLs differ — the many sub-pages of one pull request, Jira tickets, LinkedIn profiles — with 19 built-in rules, and then groups, sorts and merges windows automatically. Meeting tabs are protected from bulk actions, and before anything closes you get a preview with undo, so the automation never eats something you needed. The build story is unusually well documented. Author Jonathan Tsai wrote a full first-person account on 11 October 2026, "What Building Organize Tabs 2.0 with Claude Code Actually Looked Like," complete with the session's 9 commits and a +4814-line diff. In his own words: "most of it was built with Claude Code" — and more bluntly, "It drafted nearly everything." The stack is deliberately unfashionable and honest: vanilla JavaScript, no build step, no dependencies. The extension is live on the Chrome Web Store as version 2.1.0 (updated 9 October 2026), rated 5.0 stars across 145 users, and the source is open under MIT at hacktoolkit/organize-tabs-chrome-extension, with a fresh push on 10 October. Tab chaos is one of the most universal productivity leaks there is; a free, open-source tool that tames it — built almost entirely by AI — is worth a try.
