Folio

A team wiki that lives right in Git: write together in the browser, and syncing is a real commit — plus you can publish a whole space as a site.

Folio is an open-source team wiki meant to replace Confluence and Notion: pages live in your own Git repo, everyone writes together in real time in the browser, and hitting sync turns the work into a real Git commit, so history, rollback and review work just like code. The repo now has 80 stars, version 0.2.0 came out on 14 October 2026, and the authors' own team uses it in production. It holds more than docs: one page tree holds docs, tables, whiteboards, diagrams and files; tables are readable Markdown line by line, and files open in-page without converting. A whole space can be published as a public site that visitors can search and download from. It works for AI readers too: a built-in assistant, an agent for each space, and a full MCP interface, with agents and people editing the same pages. Getting started is one command: run it with Docker, create an account and write. No setup is needed the first time; single sign-on, groups and audit logs are all in the same MIT open-source edition, with no paid tier. The demo site needs no sign-up: pick Sam at login to try it out. Its data resets every day, so don't put anything real in it. Two things to watch: first, one space follows one branch and pushes straight to it by default, with no pull-request step — if you want review before merging, open a separate docs branch. Second, a saved page only becomes a commit after about 90 seconds quiet, or when you hit sync by hand, so right after saving the history may still look empty. Nothing is lost.
