Emberwick
The village fire-stone is gone and so is the wizard — grab two companions and solve this little fantasy village's mystery in about 15 minutes.
Emberwick is a small fantasy game you play right in the browser: every fire in the village is lit from a stone called the Hearthstone, and any fire not re-lit by midnight goes out — but on the eve of the festival, the stone is gone, the wizard is missing, and everyone in the village blames the troll. You walk around the village with two companions, enter houses, talk to villagers, and solve puzzles, and the whole story takes about 15 minutes to finish. Walls that block your view turn transparent when you enter a house, and there are basements, tunnels, and a troll sleeping in a cave to explore. When you are done with the main story, the built-in level editor lets you place houses, furniture, and terrain yourself and make a little map of your own. There is nothing to install: just open the page and play, and it runs in a mobile browser too. The author is honest about it: the game only reached a finishable state after repeated playtesting and fixing plenty of story bugs, and the experimental editor should not be expected to feel as smooth as a professional tool.
