Project intro

Macs can't run SteamVR games. VRmin makes it happen: it runs the Windows version of your SteamVR games on your Mac, using Wine and a Metal translation layer, and streams the picture to your Meta Quest over Wi-Fi, with your head and hand movements going back the other way. There's also an early Windows version in beta that streams PC VR games to the Quest the same way.

It is two apps working together. VRmin Host on the Mac installs and runs Steam for Windows, opens your VR games, and streams them — along with your desktop, windows and sound — to the headset. The Quest app is your virtual room: the game stream, menus, hands and controllers. Tested games include SUPERHOT VR, Beat Saber, Aircar and Kayak VR: Mirage.

The project has 31 stars on GitHub, 187 commits, and a 0.49 release, with the Quest app at 0.74 and commits landing within the last day. The author built it by describing what he wanted to an AI and testing every version on his own Mac and Quest, game by game, for hours on real hardware — and he says so himself in the README. It is open source under GPL-3.0, so anyone can read every line.

A few honest limits: this is a hobby project filling a gap nobody else would build for, so expect rough edges; the Windows version is beta; you need an Apple Silicon Mac, a Meta Quest and your own Steam library — and VR streaming over Wi-Fi lives or dies by your network.
