HackerTube
6,454 YouTube videos recommended on Hacker News over twenty years, turned into a no-login 'For You' feed you can just open and scroll.
Project intro
HackerTube is a small site Andrej Karpathy built in late October 2026: it gathers YouTube videos recommended on Hacker News into a no-login “For You” feed. From 2007 to 2026, people recommended 6,454 YouTube videos in HN comments, across 150 topics, and HackerTube organizes them by topic so you can watch one after another like scrolling short videos.
It is light to use: no sign-up, no subscription, just open and watch; your recommendations live in your own browser, so it can remember your preferences without an account; it supports keyboard shortcuts, and you can export your data and set up a copy of your own. Over half the videos have thumbnails, and the rest still open to the original video. In short, it turns “videos HN users thought were worth watching over the past twenty years” into a channel you can flip through any time.
Karpathy says the whole thing took about two hours from start to launch: first the model downloaded HN comments and filtered out the noise, then picked these 6,454 out of 40,000 comments recommending videos, and the only things left for him to do himself were three: apply for a YouTube API key, spin up a server, and buy the domain. The model did everything else, deployment details included.
Two things to keep in mind: first, this is an experimental side project the author threw together, not a video platform run for the long term — its content is a collection of old videos HN users recommended, so do not treat it as a daily news site; second, before this round’s publication we opened it in a browser ourselves and confirmed it: the homepage shows its video lists and sections normally, clicking into a video plays it in the site’s own player, and the About page states the same stats — 6,454 videos across 150 topics.
