Pass the Torch
A monkey codes in a dark room by torchlight: lit lines of code feed the flame, bugs bite it, and when it dies you pass the torch on.
Pass the Torch is a small game you play in the browser: the hero is a monkey called Jitters, five coffees in, writing code in a dark room by the light of a real torch stuck in a coffee mug. The torchlight is the whole interface — you can only see clearly where the light falls, and everywhere else is pitch black. The rules are just one line: tap a lit line of code and it flies into the flame and keeps the torch alive. Little bugs with eyes crawl in out of the dark, and tapping one in the light burns it away — but if one reaches the torch, it takes a bite out of the flame. All the while the monkey hums a torch song, and the darker the flame gets, the more out of tune he hums. When the torch dies, the run is not wasted: the end screen is the torch itself, marked with the notches from your leg, and your link passes to the next person, who starts from whatever light you left behind — one leg after another, passed down the chain. One thing to be clear about: this is an entry for AI Browser Game Jam 5, a short game meant to be picked up for a quick leg. It opens right inside the itch page, no download needed, and it is best played with sound on.
