SekaiPop

A Linux desktop dressed up as a singing handheld console: six anime themes, a phone-style control center, and a 571-star deep custom setup.

SekaiPop is a full makeover for the Linux desktop, inspired by the rhythm game Project Sekai. Built on Quickshell and Hyprland, it turns the control center, settings pages, lock screen and desktop widgets into one rounded, chunky, toy-like style — pink, playful, a little like a game console. The author designed all the visuals and interactions himself, and Claude wrote most of the code — he says so plainly in the README. It already has 571 stars on GitHub. The most fun part is the control center: not a panel, but a little phone that pops up from the bottom of the screen. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, volume, brightness and notifications all live on it; open Settings and the phone flips sideways into landscape with six pages inside. The equalizer is a handheld console too — ten bands you slot in and out like game cartridges — and Super+Shift+E lets you drag the clock, calendar, to-do list and lyrics widgets around like stickers. There are six character color themes, plus monochrome, wallpaper-derived and custom palettes, and window borders, the terminal and even the Discord theme follow along. Wallpaper changes come with shader transitions — rings, stars, blocks — and the lock screen comes in two styles, gacha and calendar. Installing it is easy: one install.sh turns a minimal Hyprland setup into the full desktop, and it backs up your old config automatically. The bar is clear, though: it only runs on Arch Linux with Hyprland, needs Quickshell and a long list of dependencies, and will not work on other distros or desktop environments. The author is upfront that this is a passion project, most of the code was written by AI, and rough edges and bugs are to be expected — and there has been no official release yet, so updates mean pulling the latest code.
