Grow a Song
Your time outside becomes music: every minute outdoors adds a layer to today's song, composed on your iPhone by an on-device model.
项目介绍
Grow a Song turns time outside into music. Start a walk or a run and today's song begins as a single low drone. As you spend time outdoors in daylight, layers fade in: pads, bass, drums, melody, and finally a ten-second field recording of where you are. Stay inside and the song stays thin — there is no way to skip ahead or buy layers, so the only way to hear the whole song is to go outside. Before each outing, Gemma 3 1B running on the phone composes the song — key, scale, tempo, chord progression, instruments, a title and a one-line liner note — from the time of day, the sun's height, what you are about to do, and how much you have been outside that week. A deterministic sequencer turns that specification into 16 bars, played by a small synth written from scratch. There is no account and no server: after a one-time model download of about 0.8 GB it works in airplane mode, and location, motion, health data and sound clips never leave the phone. The author proved it on a real run on 9 October 2026: 35.1 minutes counted as outside over 3.4 km, all six layers playing by the end, for a song Gemma titled Ephemeral Echoes in D dorian at 160 bpm. Note for readers: this is an iOS app, not a hosted web demo, so the demo link is its GitHub repository with build instructions (Xcode 26 or later, iPhone on iOS 17 or later; the simulator runs the interface with built-in songs only). ElevenLabs was used for the demo video's narration only, not by the app itself.
