Heartwood
A sci-fi horror gamebook: a private military squad descends to a silent terraforming colony — and the colony is growing.
项目介绍
Heartwood is a sci-fi horror gamebook in the Fighting Fantasy tradition: numbered sections, dice, STAMINA and Luck tests, and codewords that carry your choices from act to act. Halberd Unit 9, a private military squad on a corporate contract, is sent down to a terraforming colony on a tidally locked moon that has been silent for nineteen days, to bring two hundred and twelve colonists home. The colony is not dead. It is growing. Across four acts — Descent, The Reef, Holdout and The Heartwood — one run takes about half an hour and shows about a third of each act. Six squadmates have their own skills and any of them can die; who you trust decides what you learn. Every shot is heard, tracked through STAMINA, NERVE, AMMO and NOISE, and in the reef SPORE climbs — at 10 you are Rooted. You must also hold the colony through three waves on the clock, choosing which doors to barricade and whom to post where. There are seven endings, counting Rooted, and dozens of fully written ways to die, with an endings gallery showing the roads you did not take. Pick a background — combat medic, ex-miner or sniper — and a difficulty: Recruit lets you rewind, Ironman deletes your save. Sound is synthesised in the browser and pixel art is reduced to real Mega Drive limits of 16 colours. It is free in the browser, best played on a phone with headphones and in the dark, in English and Brazilian Portuguese. Note for readers: this is an itch.io-only release with no GitHub star count to report; the author discloses that pictures were generated with Codex's image tool and then reduced by script to Mega Drive colour limits.
