Project intro

Prompts you save end up scattered across notes, chat logs and bookmarks, and take forever to find when you need one. Prompt Vault is a local-first prompt vault for Windows: it sits in the tray, ready when you are — press Alt+Q to bring up a two-pane panel, type a few letters, hit Enter and the prompt is copied. Two seconds, start to finish. Data lives in a single local JSON file: no account, no cloud, no telemetry.

It does the practical stuff well: create entries by hand, save clipboard contents fast with Alt+Shift+N, bulk-import by dragging in JSON files; write {{variables}} in a prompt and a dialog asks you to fill each one before copying — same names only asked once, and it remembers what you typed last time; a Ctrl+K command palette, a ? shortcut cheat sheet, light/dark themes that follow the system, a trash bin, usage stats, and a 3-step guide on first launch.

The project has 317 stars on GitHub, 36 commits, and just shipped v0.1.0. The author laid the whole build process open in the guide/prompts branch: from user interviews, task breakdown, implementation, review to release — a full log of 65 user messages, an index of 18 sessions and ten task briefs in full. Requirements were narrowed down through conversation, and the agent did the breakdown, implementation, testing and delivery — GLM 5.3 driving, GLM 5.3 Flash for fast iteration, DeepSeek 4.1 Flash for executing the task briefs.

A few honest limits: Windows 10/11 only for now, no Mac or Linux version; still an early 0.1.x release, focused on collecting and grabbing prompts — no cloud sync or team sharing; and the interface is all in Chinese. Best for people who talk to AI every day and keep collecting prompts.
