Job Tracker is a personal tracker for job applications, and a neat case study in spec-driven vibe coding. Every feature starts as a written spec in docs/specs/ before a line of code exists, with the planned build order tracked in a public roadmap. The app itself covers the full job-hunt loop: a kanban board (Wishlist → Applied → Screening → Interviewing → Offer → Accepted/Rejected), a table view, and per-application pages with requirements, timelines and contacts. Under the hood it's a TypeScript monorepo — Express backend, React frontend, SQLite storage, npm workspaces — with light and dark themes, drag-and-drop between stages, and follow-up reminders (the screenshots even show an "overdue" nudge on a stalled application). The author notes the screenshots use made-up sample data. The repo description says it directly: "built with Claude Code using Spec Driven Development." Zero stars and five days of commits at scouting time — a fresh, honest, small-scope office app that does one job well.

Under the hood it combines Apple's PDFKit, Vision OCR and Foundation Models: layout heuristics recover real fonts and structure from the content stream, scanned pages go through Vision OCR, and Apple's on-device foundation model does a narrow proofreading pass (each request asks a single yes/no question; a spelling change is only accepted when it turns a non-word into a word through a typical OCR confusion). Chapters come from the PDF outline, the printed Contents page, or detected headings; footnotes become linked notes; output passes epubcheck with 0 errors. The author is explicit about how it was made — the README's Et Cetera section reads: "Claude Opus 5.5 made all of this. I take no credit beyond the initial desire and some busy work to bundle it up." Created 2026-10-12 and actively maintained (release 1.1.2 within days), MIT licensed. PaperOtter is a local document toolkit: 19 tools across PDF, image, and document work, all running on your own machine. Compress, merge, split, rotate, watermark, redact, and sign PDFs; convert between JPG, PNG, and WebP; turn PDFs and Word docs into clean Markdown, HTML, JSON, plain text, or DOCX. Eighteen of the nineteen tools need nothing installed — only ebook-format conversion reaches for an external app. It ships for Mac, Windows, and Linux in nine languages, with a consistent four-step flow for every tool: Pick, Configure, Compare, Save. The privacy posture is the point. PaperOtter has no AI features, no chatbot, and no assistant; your files never leave your computer. It makes exactly two network calls — an update check on launch and a feedback-address fetch inside the About dialog. The README even carries a written note on why the EU AI Act's transparency duties don't attach to it, reasoning included and open to challenge. That's an unusual level of honesty for a free tool.
